Palmetto BUGS,but actually a very large cockroach.up to 2 inches long. They're all over Florida,too.
I've found that the flea spray sold at HD that has the insect growth regulator does very well at killing them;it's not as fast as other roach sprays,but has no odor like roach sprays.It also lasts for many months.

Yes. A powder actuated ballistic device, commonly known as a gun is usually regulated within city limits.
Air actuated ballistic devices are usually called an "air pistol" or "air rifle". One seldom hears them described as a gun, though they are, as the definition of a gun is completely covered by air actuated ballistic devices.
Most cities wont cite for discharge, but if you do it in an upward trajectory, you are responsible for any damage the projectile causes with anything it impacts.
Same is true for guns, of course, but they usually get pointed at other people, so there is a 'flesh trap' for the projectile, unless it passes on through.

I wonder if it would be very good to cross an air rifle with a Paslode cordless nailer. Use an air/fuel mixture to propel a pellet instead of pumping air. Seems like a winner if you could get sufficient velocity that way. If my understanding is correct, the military propels artillery that way.

simple spring lever air rifles already achieve 900-1200 FPS with 4.5mm pellets.(8-12 gr.)
And there's a 9mm air rifle that fires a 77grain lead pellet at 900 FPS,using precharged compressed air cylinders(2800PSI or more.) That's a pretty good wallop.
I don't believe a .177 or .22 airgun pellet would be enough to humanely kill a raccoon.Their smaller,lighter pellets lose more KE downrange.
But using a air-fuel propellant over a certain muzzle velocity puts you into the "firearm" category,WRT BATF(F-troop),and you don't want to exceed
0.5" diameter(.50cal) projectiles.

For example, some of the Gamo air rifles shoot 1200 FPS with "PBA" pellets. Would that velocity also be possible with fuel/air combustion? Or the 9mm you mentioned, would 900 FPS also be possible with fuel/air. I know in the case of Paslode cordless nailers, other air nailers run off of 90 PSI compressed air. But, I'm pretty sure that 90 PSI wouldn't be the limit of fuel/air combustion because many I/C engines compression well above that.
On a sort of related note, someone where I work re-charged a hydraulic accumulator with oxygen instead of nitrogen. As they ran the machine and hydraulic pressure built up to 2500 PSI, it went off. The accumulator bladder was blown into the hydraulic piping and the fill valve vented the fire like a flame thrower all over the electronic pressure switches and wiring. It was bad enough for the controls but luckily no one got injured. Anyway, to destroy hydraulic components made to work at 2500+ PSI, I know the fuel/air (or in this case, oil/nitorgen/oxygen (diesel/compression ignition?)) is capable of high pressures.

This is easy. You have a large volume 'surge tank'. That is where you deploy the 'powder actuated pressure spiker' (bullet round without the bullett). The rounds get fired *into* the surge chamber. The pressure in the vessel rises, but at an easily manageable rate. Fire rounds until desired pressure is reached or design the system such that the pressure is reached with each cycle of firing one round (ideal). The valving after that is no different than currently used. There would need to be a system incorporated to manage the debris produced from the combustion products such that the valve system never sees any of it..
