I can't digest grits, either. They make me sick as hell, and so constipated that it is a bloody mess. I won't get near any 'restaurant' that even serve the damn things.

There's a commercial wasp-killing product on the market now, which consists of water, a bit of soap, and mint oil.

I don't think it would be practical to spray at wasps which are swarming and attacking, and it's probably too messy to use indoors... but when used against wasps that are resting (on their nest or elsewhere outdoors) it's quite effective. The soapy water gives it a good knock-down capability, and the mint oil acts as a neurotoxin to insects.

It's advertised as nontoxic to humans... and it smells a whole lot better than the traditional long-distance nest sprays.

My neighbor kept promissing me some stuff she ordered, something she was powdering here perimeter of the house. From her tone she hates spiders. Got some yesterday, turn out to be Diatomaceous Earth. I really don't know if it works on spiders, but I have seen all kinds of claims. Seems to work best on soft skin pests. Food grade I believe. I have a black ant problem, but will see. The regular coating of Borax on the paper insulation in the attic didn't keep away mice in the old house.

So, why is it OK to kill vermin and not varmint?

I hate to admit this but I also use my lights if I have to drive after dark, the light draws bugs and some get killed by my car.

AFAIK,Borax is not any insecticide. I use boric acid for roaches,ants won't touch it without sugar added. I've also heard about diatomaceous earth.

Yes. Our 'civil' society is screwed up. Folks that grew up civil do not understand that the job is not done yet, and piss and moan went someone wants to put their slightly less than civil foot down.

That is why we have rampant gangs in this country.

What the world needs to bring back is public stoning. Then kids would grow up in fear of criminal activity, not embracing it because their retarded brother OR FATHER taught them that crime pays.

But hey... that might actually DETER crime. We wouldn't want that.

That is what is wrong with this and any other nation. The population grew. The crime rate remained the same. By the math alone, that means that we needed to build quite a few more prisons, but NO, the idiots are pumping hard criminals out the back door as they push new "convicts" in the front. All so they can suck an inordinate fee from the state and federal subsidies for the task.

It really is sad that the freedom we had did not carry enough smarts to keep the greed from seeping back in the way it has.

Public stoning might be going a little far, but a little more public humiliation might go a long way in some cases to getting people to straighten up. Sheriff Joe believes this... :-) (He spends an awfully lot of time and money having to fight off lawsuits from people who disagree with him, though...)

The problem is that there's plenty of crime committed by people who are (1) too mentally ill or (2) just too dumb to really be deterred. As-is, crime in the U.S. has been slowly falling over time -- and overall the U.S. isn't really tougher on crime than, say, 40 years ago.

The strong link between economic conditions that people live in and their tendency to become criminals shouldn't be ignored either -- there are plenty of rich brats out there who never stole a pair of sneakers or an Xbox only because begging the money off of their parents was easier than mugging someone.

Canada might accept you as an immigrant? :-)

I had a raccoon make a hole in my roof and get in my attic, couldn't fix the hole until I got the raccoon out. After a few weeks of trying to get it out, we finally had success by throwing moth balls in the attic. Since the raccoon invaded my home, and I had no food in the attic, does that make it a vermin?

Sometimes my mother-in-law invades my home, she may be a vermin.

I figure if it's OK for mothers to have their babies killed through abortion, it should be OK for me to kill unwanted skunks and varmints that come too close for comfort. I keep the food put up at night now to not draw them but sometimes they come around and damage my property. I don't hunt them or wait in hiding with my rifle, but if they come around and aren't scared off in the time it takes me to get and load a gun, then they may get shot at.

The problem is that as a population grows, so too should the prison bed count, as the prison convict count certainly scales with it, even if crime 'goes down' as you say.

By population growth alone, they should have doubled the prison count between 1950 and now, and they have not.

We also need a 'Devil's Island' type prison that would be where we send the worst offenders, never to set foot on free soil again.

Naw... that would be a 'vector'. Tee hee hee...

Let's see how many folks actually get that one now.
