"A May 2000 study by economic consultant Rick Nevin theorizes that lead exposure explains 65% to 90% of the variation in violent crime rates in the U.S.[12][13]. "

By any chance, does your soldering guy look like he's ready to snap?... :P

Interesting, I touched lead all the times, I haven't had any health problem. I washed my hands very often. Many lead made me funny. By the way, can a foreigner open an bank account in Canada? Do you know your bank requirement?

As a kid,I used to melt lead wheelweights and scrap on the kitchen gas stove(indoors,no ventilation),casting it into little ingots. I work in electronics, soldering with tin-lead solder.I've had decades of lead exposure. I haven't committed any violent crime yet,at 55 yrs of age.

That has to do with lead induced developmental impairment and not its effect on adults. The correlation is stunning and the data gathering has been ongoing for years now.

It seems to have made you repeat your self.

This is absolutely true...

While in school (fourth grade, IIRC) I was jabbed in the hand by some idiot, with a pencil lead.

My life of crime started right then when I put him down for the count. There is truely a causual relationship, IMHO.

To answer your original question:

No, but he's drooling a lot more now, is that a warning sign?

I'm not an expert, but my mother had a Canadian bank account... We did live in Canada when she opened it, but later moved to the US.

Realize that the IRS has some rules on foriegn bank accounts, too that you need to be aware of. IIRC it is an audit red-flag much like a home office deduction is.

But not WHERE they got the lead exposure.

Forgers on USENET tend to do that quite a bit.

I looked up aioe.org (Italian)... free anonymous news posting, up to

25/day, without any restrictions, thus the nuisance.

Imitation being the most sincere form of flattery, it seems you have an admirer Jim.

Alas, though Pseudo-Jim has spawned some interesting discussions, (s)he seems incapable of adding anything to them.

You mean dimbulb has some competition? He couldn't be that big of a boob without taking lots of hormones, and silicone.

Lead is certainly BAD for young brains, but the study discussed in the NYT article makes a basic error w.r.t. crime: correlation causation. True, crime fell 20 years after lead fell, but that doesn't prove causation.

Alternate conclusions available by the same reasoning: - red trucks cause fires - removing lead from gasoline boosts economies.

It's usually prosperity that reduces crime. (Or maybe I have that backward--crime kills prosperity?)

If they want to prove lead exposure causes crime, they need to measure lead-levels in criminals.

Never wonder when you can measure.

Meanwhile, I suspect ADHD may be growing in America partly due to plummeting omega-3 levels in our diet. Brains are *made* (about 8%) of the stuff, and don't work quite properly without it. I know an ADHD kid who's perfectly normalized by supplements.

They did do that, read the article.

Yep-the chemical balance of the human body is incredibly fragile.

I've read it thrice now and can't find it--all I see are indirect measures, e.g.

"Reyes uses small variations in the lead content of gasoline from state to state to strengthen her argument."

She extrapolates environmental lead-->exposure-->crime. It could just be that industries locate in rough, low-rent neighborhoods. Too many loose ends here.

Mind you, I don't dismiss the claim--it's plausible.
