I'm not arguing against fantasy or virtual reality, just those as replacements actual reality. Example: having a girlfriend vs. simulating one on your PC. The simulation lacks, eh?

Little kids immersed in these over-simplified, scripted worlds ain't as good as them running around, skinning their knees, and learning to share. And teens should (but don't reliably) spend at least some of their time learning to blow things up, melting metal, sculpting, playing instruments, sports, reading classics, etc.

I suspect the gaming industry might be making adjustments to improve social conduct.. One surprising example: In Half Life 2, you mostly care about saving your own ass. However, at some point the single player AI gives you a squad. The freaky thing is the people in the squad have realistic human faces. For the little kids, it's best to be exposed to a variety of activities both fun and practical. The video games are like greasy burgers and fries and doesn't make for a complete diet. At the moment, gaming is still evolving and it'll be some time for it to surpass the quality of reality.
