As usual, nothing substantive, just invective.

I post most of my circuits on the LTspice list where people who can actually design circuits hang out. I post WORKING circuits here when lurkers post an actual problem rather than dumb-ass stuff like how to store a kilo-Watt.

You have your head up your butt, exemplified by your choice of components, and exhibiting zero thought about the physics of what you are trying to do. Flail away ;-)

Then ask Hobbs. He's addressed similar tasks many times. I could tell you how, but I won't. Hobbs takes pity on you and will guide you :-)

JL and I kick around circuit designs together all the time, both here and offline. We both learn stuff from each other, generate a lot of ideas, and have a good time doing it. We designed one instrument together (with one of the other Highland guys, Jonathan Dufour), and will probably do more soonish. (He also makes good red beans and rice, and has excellent taste in pubs.)

I've kicked some stuff around with you too, though not as much, and that was also productive.

It's called "collaborating", you see, and it doesn't involve flaming or head games. Often, as in this case, collaborators becomes friends, which is one of life's larger blessings.

The Godzilla vs Rodan thing around SED is just plain tiresome, regardless of who's doing it at any given moment.

Everyone should. I'm absolutely wonderful. I design microchips that work right out of the box, no tweaks, no re-spins, no blue wires; and I have fun doing it... lots of fun. And I'm a wonderfully pleasant individual, laugh probably too much, for it's hard to ignore the Larkin's of this world.

John Larkin knows quite a bit of stuff that happens to be wrong - his ideas about anthropogenic global warming seem to be culled from Fox News - but Jim Thompson doesn't even know that anthropogenic global warming is an issue.

And of course, maligantly stupid. He wrecked his credibility with the FBI by reporting me to them as "dangerously anti-American" which is a remarkably fatuous lunacy. Even Jim Yanik couldn't be sillier.

I never watch television [1], and don't look at the Fox web site. But I know how tricky temperature measurements can be, ditto nonlinear simulations of complex chaotic systems.

I probably have. I did an AGC mike preamp for the C5A and used an MC15xx or some such. It was a simple NPN diff pair, with a current sink (transistor and a resistor) to drive the emitters, three transistors total. It may have had an emitter follower output, too. Can't remember, it was 40 years ago, when I was just a teenager.

I stuck the audio signal into the bottom transistor and used the top pair, current steering, to vary the gain. It wasn't hi-fi, but mil audio system specs tolerate a lot of THD. The real value here was the matched NPN pair.

I used to remember every circuit I ever designed, but the numbers finally overwhelmed me. Some are really worth remembering, some aren't.
