It certainly wasn't a big deal. He was making money out of going around addressing meetings about Ethernet, and my employers sent me along to one of them. I got to talk to him after the meeting - he was too busy being charismatic to say anything useful.
Which worked, but not all that well, and didn't exactly take over the world.

Maybe. I presume the output is at the collectors, so the emitter nodes should be low capacitance, so not a likely "sing". The only way to know for sure is to run loop gain and phase. You ran that before you commented, didn't you John Larkin?
Adding said "base resistors" might actually aggravate the phase and _cause_ oscillation.

Both circuits, in two quite different products, are right. I've got two other, different, fast current sources in recent designs, one closed-loop and one bootstrap. You bragged about having something good, but as usual is was an empty boast.
You really don't understand why JFs circuit might oscillate. You actually think an 800 KHz opamp will participate in a 100 MHz loop oscillation. Explain that "loop gain and phase" to us.
