Are you _really, truly_ that obtuse?

Thanks, Rich

How does that saying go, don't steal, the government doesn't like competition? Something like that?

This is supposed to be better, more like individualized education, even though they STILL have the problem of pretending the kids are all equal and teaching to the Lowest Common Denominator.

It threatens the UNIONS to point out that other countries have large class sizes yet provide better educations.

Classrooms that are more regimental might not teach students to be as CREATIVE or as free wheeling as our LIBERAL schools.

I'll bet I made more money selling used TVs on the school bus. :)

Correction: Writing yourself an IOU, squandering the money, and then claim that you still have the money because you owe it to yourself.

True. It was sold as insurance. The lawyers explained to the Court that it wasn't literally insurance, t'was a tax. (Apparently the original explanation was just a simplification for the public.)

The Court agreed the government has the power to tax, and SS was born.

Of course that's not what the Constitution says--it says the government has the power to tax for /certain/ purposes only (followed by a list of acceptable purposes), which leads to the debates about whether the drafters really meant that, or if they maybe misspoke and meant the government can tax you "for whatever it wants to or thinks might be good for you."

They're kind of foreclosing already--they're in the middle of a militaristic surge, and we ain't saying "boo." We don't dare.

They can't literally foreclose--they'd have to invade us. Good luck with that.

But it looks in theory like they could bring us to our knees without firing a shot, for less than half the cost of a stimulus package.

Looking at the latest Treasury numbers, the Chinese have been dumping their US debt, shedding $92B, and Japan and the UK have been snapping it up, adding $74B and $248B, respectively. (current: China--$847B, Japan--$821B, UK--$374B)

Somebody actually believes this country's economic misery all just happened in the last couple of years? hmm... interesting.

No, but it's accelerated dramatically--we've tacked $3B onto the debt in less than two years, and added huge structural deficits in Obamacare, extra federal government employees (roughly 450,000, costing about $50B a year), and dramatic increases in other entitlements.

We were on the slow boat to China. Now it's a rocket ship.

I'm thinking that the official position of both the Democratic and Republican parties are both that that government can tax you for whatever it wants to. :-)

No, Greegor. That was me, Richard the Dreaded Libertarian, who made the above comments, not krw, albeit it'c conceivable that he might have said similar things.

Hey, no problem! All our "national defense" is busy trying to do whatever the hell they're trying to do in Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Chinese could simply dress as SWAT officers and the whole country will bend over and kiss their asses.

Thanks, Rich

Hey, no problem! The US "national defense" forces are all busy halfway across the world trying to conquer the Middle East. And, of course, with the police state mentality that seems to be growing, all the Chinese would have to do would be to wear SWAT uniforms, and the whole country would bow down and kiss their boots.

Thanks, Rich
