OT: Did we just win?

Breaking news - I haven't actually checked if this is a gag or not, but I'm sure somebody will:

And hoo, boy! Dubya must have hired some new spin doctors: "He is a steady, solid leader who can help make the necessary adjustments in our approach to meet our current challenges," Bush said.

Sounds like a Mission Statement from Dilbert.com. ;-)

Am I gloating? Well, what the frap, it's our turn! ;-D ;-D ;-D

Sounds like a job description for an airline pilot...

Is this in regard to Rumsfeld resigning? I tried the above link, but all that was there were a bunch of ads.

Looks like Rummie will need a new job... do you think he can be trained to hold a soldering iron? ;-)

If he solders like he leads, you will have to retrain him after coffee breaks on which end gets hot.

Not their MO. His administration actually _prefers_ distraction and sharp division. It isn't for the reason you suggest.

Here's my guess, since we are guessing. It is that Bush is confused, still believes he is god's messenger, and his megalomania makes him fundamentally incapable of taking any blame for anything at all. So he is striking out at the only "possibility" he sees that must have been the reason for this downfall. It can't be him, so...

Jon, Did you hear Mr. Bush's press conference this afternoon, where he called the election "a whuppin'?"

I thought he acquitted himself quite well. He fully accepted the blame -- not a megalomanic at all. He's getting better at this public speaking-thing.

I've often disagreed with the President and his policies, but I've never ever gotten the megalomanic vibe. I suspect the country just doesn't understand Texans. Texas is bigger, and Texans are better -- you've just got to understand that going in. :-)

ISTM Rumsfeld's been sacrificed, an offering on the altar of his most outspoken critic -- Pelosi.

Cheers, James Arthur

That depends on how you define 'win'.

They put a CIA guy in the sec'y of defense position to sanitize the files. Heck, Rumsfeld might even have a convenient heart attack before the house can subpoena him to testify.

Meanwhile, all the contractors will be wrapping up their operations and shredding documents. If there is anything to the theory that the Iraqi insurgency was backed by the CIA to keep things off balance and attention off their business over there, they may no longer be able to do so. The insurgency will collapse, the Iraqi government will gain control and we won't need troops over there anymore. Or contractors.

That might be the best we an hope for.

Well, I mean... if it is just a matter of back-seat ruminations about what motivations are behind Rumsfeld's resignation that makes us delusional, then we will both be delusional tomorrow, too.

See you on the other side of today!

Bush's administration has _never_ been about bipartisanship, despite words to the effect earlier in his administration and again, now. There has been no delivery of anything except divisiveness, both within and without our country, from this administration.

As far as the speech is concerned, I think his actual words were (those oft quoted, anyway),

"...I share a large part of the responsibility..."

I completely agree that this disputes my earlier comments. My guess was mostly to tweak Jim a little bit, but there was a little bit of seriousness there, too. I think the fullness of time will tell the story one way or another and I'd be glad let go of the thought.

To be honest, I have. I won't try and belabor it here, as this would be about how he has triggered my 'templates' on this score and that would be an unending discussion achieving little to those without them, but I will only say that I'm not the only one having seen such a possibility. In fact, there is at least one book from a psychiatrist on this subject.

I don't understand Texans, but Bush strikes me as a silver-spoon in the mouth type, with very little understanding or empathy for others. More of a Marie Antoinette type, I suppose. And definitely seeing himself in a god-sent role. I don't think this well describes Texans and I don't think Bush represents Texans.

One of my close friends in Texas wrote this paragraph to me, recently:

"I wish I had time to go into some of the local political scene and my own rabble rousing, but it will have to suffice to say that Katy's race is going to be another knuckle biter, but she has a good chance - it be better if more people actually watched the debates where her opponent came off as the remedial candidate. And there is no doubt whatsoever that Dallas County in general is going Blue this election."

She is active in politics in Texas. One of the best people I know, too.

I sincerely doubt that is the reason.

Yes,he's always been a humble man. I'd be far more leery of a guy like Kerry, who has a "face" he puts on for the public.(and doesn't say what he means,and/or changes it constantly.)

IMO,this election shows how the Bush-hating MEDIA (>70% Democrat) misled the citizenry and skewed the election. They gave the people nothing but bad news.

I also note that the terrorists wanted the Democrats to win;guess why.

Yeah, talk about conspiracy theories...this one is right up there.

On one hand,Bush is allegedly too stupid to do anything right, but then he's clever enough to do all sorts of nefarious things...these nuts are SO inconsistent and irrational, while Bush has been very consistent, open and rational.

Pelosi isn't a malevolent volcano god. Rumsfeld doesn't want to, or can't defend his position on the war in Iraq.
