Well I'll be gobsmacked! FatBytestard got something right.

Puppy Linux has a complete writable file system. The parts you write remain in RAM but there really is a file system that can be written.

I did. Both. Evidently a lot of others do too. It's been in use for almost forty years.

apps,

Not only that (of course it would have to be in RAM), but note how all Live distros have the root password as an unknown, and one that can only be changed locally, so they boot as root as a rule, as it were. When the user changes that password, he can then go into the GUI as root if he so desires and get things done in x. Not the safest way to do things, but easier than sudo unless you want to go 'round editing rights files and other less than monkey user proof labors.

The same vulnerability IS there, however, as ANY file volumes that happen to be on the system, though not written to by the distro as a rule at boot time, CAN be mounted, made read-write active, and have files deleted on them or added to them, so the asswipe that was saying you cannot be attacked in such a setting, is an utter idiot.

Well? If it has never found any, then you can rest in the knowledge that your computer online usage practices are the reason.

Xp works fine.

So does Vista for those for which it does, and so does Windows 7, more so than either of the others.

And most business users are still running XP.

"The survey of IT and management staff by systems management specialist Kace also found three quarters will stick with Windows XP during the next year rather than move to Windows Vista as a stepping stone on to Windows 7 - expected this year."

Well, don't tell anyone, fatboy, but some people are saying you run a bunch of sockpuppets very unconvincingly and know Jack SHIT about Linux!

droves.

Yup. Then MS will delay 7 (6.1) some and still no takers for vista, and then another round of delay. Then, maybe, open source / Linux will really take off. Or maybe not, just the same "wine" is getting aufully good these days. .

Wine is retarded, and after such a stupid remark, so are you and so is your grasp of computer science, and so is your grasp of emulation (obviously).

You guys are worse than 10 year old jock wanna be kids, out on the playground, bullying the 7 year old kids.

One or more of them needs to shove a cattle prod up your asses and make a you boob video from you boob's stupidity. The cattle prod dance would be you doing the hamster dance on cue, by force, and with prejudice.
