A friend of mine was experimenting with a little fan ( the small ones that are used in computers ) First on a battery, just to see what the effects were. After a day he measured a reduction in motor activity of the frigerator. I don't have exact numbers, but in his case it was worth the investment for a permanent setup, so he did.
BTW: his fridge didn't have a fan of itself.

Lexan degrades in the sunlight. After a year or two,it will have become brittle, and even small hail will break it. It also clouds up,and will really reduce your power output. Dirt will scratch it.

Ah, Now I understand your point. I did misunderstood.
Maybe it is a good Idea to have a refrigerator in your car. At least you might drink a cool beer when you're driving home. 8-D

I and many others disagree.
you first. show us how it's done,on your own dime.
"do something",without knowing whether it will have any appreciable effect on the problem, but assuredly will have appreciable negative effect on our pocketbooks and lifestyles. typical "progressive".
that was TWO statements.
So do volcanoes and dust storms. one volcano emits more crap than the humans make in long time. there's a lot of active volcanoes.
a few billion Chinese, perhaps. They do not have much of an EPA. and all those "developing nations" that burn wood and coal for cooking and heat. Of course, using nuclear can eliminate burning coal (or oil, natural gas)for electric power... I'm all for that.
that doesn't apply to everything else.
Learned wrong,WRT to DDT; we found that DDT saved lives, and proper application didn't harm the wildlife.
Have a big war; that always gets rid of a lot of those pesky polluting humans.
"you think". no one has proven it yet. Lots of trickery to try to "prove" it,though.
you first.show the rest of us how it's done.

How much of a "reduction"? was it significant? does it cover the cost of buying, installing and powering a fan? I also wonder about his "measurements".
perhaps his evaluation was not accurate or complete.
so he's running OLD,inefficient appliances. and trying to kludge up something to make them more efficient.

We used to use a contact cleaner called Spra-Kleen, a nasty methylene chloride sort of thing. If you sprayed it on a Lexan enclosure, it would fracture crumble into flakes as you watched. You could destroy a teletype machine by trying to clean it with the stuff.

The hockey stick people have done exactly that.

Simple answer - Bad Science!
The 'ozone hole' was there the first time we looked. We didn't study it, determine if it was getting bigger or smaller, take samples, and determine the cause scientifically. Instead, it became the 'crisis de'jour' and was decried in the media as the end of the world. Some scientist PROPOSED a possible cause was CFCs, and then the greenies took over. Within a couple of years, perfectly good, safe substances were removed from the market due to media insanity, and replaced with dangerous, toxic substances whose only benefit was to politicians and lobbiests.
Same with DDT. Some researcher reported problems with egg shell thicknesses (the variation claimed was beyond his ability to measure!) and decided it must be DDT that caused the problem. No mechanism for this cause was ever determined, but again, a media storm and policial expediency won out over human benefit, and millions have died from malaria and other insect spread diseases that could otherwise have been prevented.
But Greenies feel good about themselves for having 'helped' the environment!

Nonsense.
Huh?
The usual leftist strawman...
Cynical platitude.
More hollow platitudes.
Strawman.
Childish whining; "It's just not Faaaiiir!"
All of these things are telling me that you listen to too much MSM news.
Ok, let's do something about the speed of light. It's just TOO HIGH!
You're the one who's whining about man's actions. It's your fault. It's up to you to take care of it. Kill yourself NOW, or are you just another leftist moron who wants to tell OTHERS what to do, but isn't willing to do anything himself. How positively Goreish of you!
You don't think liberty matters? You don't understand *why* we have the standard of living we do? How positively unsurprising (both questions)!
Translation: "It's *YOUR* fault. My conscience is clear."
*EVERYTHING* is politics. It's unanimous. I want to control my life and
*you* want to control my life. How nice of you.
You are just stupid.

UIUC uses waste steam off its power plant to heat much of the main campus. The power plant is coal fired (how positively brown in such a leftist state). It's a small plant (50MW, or so). I'm not quite sure how far the steam lines go, but it's something like a mile.
