Somewhere between zero and never.

Then put it on your house.

They did it right at Ft. Greely. The utilities were all underground, in steel channels with locking covers. The colder it was outside, the more steam was piped to buildings, so they never had to worry about frozen pipes. :)

And I would swear that your parents let the Harlem Globtrotters dribble you on yours for an entire season.

I landed on my back on an aluminum ladder. I put a sharp bend in the ladder when I hit the ground. I was wearing a heavy winter coat and it was below -20F when the wind picked me up, and dropped me off the side of a house. I fell about 25 feet. If I hadn't been so cold and stiff, I would have probably died on the spot.

Much of UIUC is heated with central steam, too.

Just don't use my tax money.

Unless it's "walk-in" size, that looks relatively inefficient by European standards. Since the introduction of mandatory efficiency labels, it has reached the point that you'd have trouble finding anything which doesn't get at least an "A" rating. A typical under-counter fridge is rated at 100-150kWh/year, with tall fridges at 160-250kWh/year.

Of course, I may be overlooking something, e.g. Americans considering an "average" fridge to be one large enough to fit a minivan inside.

I was always scared of heights. When I was a kid we used to jump off roofs holding onto a line tied to a tall tree, but it was scary. The idea was to swing out as far as we could and return to the roof top. Later in the Marine Corps, they taught us to throw hand grenades. It didn't bother me much to hold a live hand grenade with the pin pulled, but it did bother the instructor.

Of course they do. The question is how and by how much. The next question would be can we stop something we are doing or start doing something we aren't to change it. The next question is how much would it cost and more importantly what would we want to change it to anyway?

Are we supposed to believe that the current climate (or what it was a century ago before claimed AGW) just happens to be the overall optimum temperature for the globe and its inhabitants?

Seems improbable to me but the extreme imbalance between the attention and funding given to profits of doom and bringers of glad tidings makes it so.

In 2007 Tomshardware did (well not the lexan crap).

They decided to create a solar powered PC and run it 24/7 with lots and lots of monitoring and live web feeds of its performance.

Spent about $3800 on the parts.

The articles are still up here

I didn't follow it at the time and can't find any results of their experiment. From the few comments on their forum it looks like it was declared a failure and scrapped after a couple of weeks.

Did anyone follow it at the time, does anyone know if the results are available somewhere?

Under counter? That's not even a decent beer 'fridge. That's something kiddies are sent off to college with. Oh, I forgot, Europeons don't even make ice. Did you look at the link, above?

Crap. Minivans are for the kiddies.

Ours is a 28ft^3 French Door and there certainly are larger.

I thought Marines had to use practice grenades, till they were out of boot camp. :)

You could run a lot of desktops 24/7 for that money.

Under counter? Those are only good for keeping drinks cold in your office.

No, those are used in morgues.

Greely had multiple boiler plants, because of the distances. The oldest one was in the TV station building I worked in. Unfortunately, that building was heated with whatever was left over, so some days the control room was barely above freezing.

In another part of this thread I posted a YouTube vid of guys repairing a shingle roof after hail damage. They casually remark that although the shingles are damaged the PV array is in perfect condition.

Well, if such things are a real problem the PV array will have to be overlaid with a knife grid standing off by a few inches.

Some people do, but maybe it's just not the right way to express themselves.

Human behavior is absolute a factor in this case, just like any other living creature on this planet. I don't think we can change climate backwards, but it would be a good idea to take care of our planet. We are creatures who behave ourself as parasites. If the host can't handle to many parasites, the host will die. If the host die, .....??? It's not a very good idea to think we can do without nature. It's not fair to population who are living without economical systems, to destroy their world. And all these things together are telling me: "We have to change!"

There are many things you can do about anything, it's just willing to do something.

I agree with that statement.

Put off your eyecaps. We put all kinds of dust in the air. It will be our coverlet. All of our heavy industrial activities are supporting chemical reactions in the atmosphere, oceans and On the ground. Why do you think freon is forbidden in refrigerators these days. It's because we can do something better. Same with DDT, we learned and changed our behavior.

Humans are destroying woods as big as a football-station every 2 seconds. Just because of an economical issue. People need to eat. But they are eating their future. They can't say, there is nothing I can do!

I think it is a crucial factor in climate-change.

Just put the rope around your neck before you jump.

Political systems, economical systems, democrats, liberals, I don't think it matters. It's just our human behavior which is deciding.

I don't want to speak about politics while anarchy and chaos is going on. ;-) If it's time to save yourself, you don't think about your politic ideals, you just run.

Ik praat liever tegen een domoor, dan tegen dovemansoren.

I'm living in a sea-climate. Summers and winters are almost equal in temperature. When it's getting very very cold, I am gonna dig a hole in the ground to keep me warm, LOL. No, I'm not afraid. I'm creative enough to find solutions. I am a survivor. I have possibilities, but not an air-conditioner.

Bad argument!

The difference between you and me is: you need money and furniture to buy and to feel comfort. Your bathroom, tellyset, stereo, car, career, holidays and your job means nothing to me, but you won't understand that, will you? Everything you own, you have to take care for. It's not my standard of living, and I don't want it either. It's a political/commercial standard. your political/commercial system force you to see it your way. Brainwashed!!!

Let me be clear about this. I can't do without money, but I don't like to be a consumer just for the benefit of somebody else. I'm not selling myself! If you want to have that standard of living of yours and feel happy with it, so be it. For me it is a poor standard of living, I just don't like it.

Many people think I am a fool or something, because I am different. They just don't understand me. It's not easy to take an other road as mainstream. But it's fun too. I'm learning a lot.

I think we both have made our statements and we don't agree. It has no use to get into a yes/no discussion. We're getting more and more off-topic, but that's OK.

If there is something more you like to tell me, I shall notice. When you don't give me interesting arguments, I won't react anymore.

Thanks for the communication so far. Take care.

P.s.: The world is our paradise, don't make a hell of it!
