A lot of engineers and programmers are mild to serious aspergers. It may be an asset, the ability to concentrate really hard on something.

My wife is a speech pathologist, and sees lots of asperger and autistic kids. They are mostly boys. When she's in doubt about the diagnosis, she looks at the father.

Interesting, that speech pathologists are literally 98% female, and EEs are mostly male, and speech pathologists tend to marry engineers.

for over-65's there is one study that suggests that their optimum BMI is around 30, which would normally be taken to be the lower bound of obesity

It's not a large scale study - 1008 people - and some commentators have suggested that the numbers are to some extent confounded by the tendency of the elderly to get skinny when they get sick.

What is certain is that if you are too fat, you up your chances of type 2 diabetes, and developing that isn't good for your life expectancy - you progressive get light as they chop off your gangrenous extremities.

don't get fooled john, it is most likely a Micro Hand Held Sound Device to USB with nothing more than a MIC and EAR Phone jack!. I just happen to have a couple of those :)

Yup, he can really measure some serious s*it with that! Most likely what he is using for that oscillator he has been working on. Application for the sound chip oscilloscope written in GW-basic and hardware assist to read the USB port in DEBUG.

It is a Picoscope 2203 with only 5MHz bandwidth (which should be all that I need). Picoscope now starts that range with the 10MHz 2204 and that currently sells for $262.35 (at the current exchange rate). The invoice that came with the scope is dated May 29 2009 and apparently I paid 265.90 euro ($340 at the current exchange rate) for the device (including UPS delivery from the UK and two probes).

It is conveniently compact.

My friend and (long ago) ex-boss in London does good things with the sound card in his computer, and was advising me to go the same way, but I'd used a Picoscope when I was working at Haffmans BV from 2002 to 2003, and it had worked adequately, so I elected to buy something that looked adequate out of their range, rather than improvising.
