OT - Innocent men held as Guantanamo Bay prisoners

Control of the white house is need to pack a court. Who currently has it?

In the long run all of this has to get past the supreme court. Some of the reason it has is that justices appointed by republican presidents have tended to liberalize a bit with time, and not rule as they were expected to. Which is why the conservatives are being so careful to try to find justices that will stay that way, and rule out anyone who betrays the slightest hint of possibly growing up some day ;-)

Yep, sorry, I erred... I believe you are right... I heard the number while half-listening to the radio.

But I find it hilarious how the blue-nosed tree-hugging leftist weenie socialists complain that it is Conservatives packing the courts when Liberals couldn't get ANY of their agenda into law without activist courts... the public/legislative/administrative process won't pass ANY of their crap.

The Declaration of Independance does not say that "Americans" are endowed with inalienable rights. It says that "all men" are endowed with these rights. If human rights are not universal then our Declaration is built upon a foundation of sand. But as an American I maintain that it rests upon a foundation of stone. These truths are self-evident; they're not up for revision by Bush, Inc., nor can they be placed "on hold."

Holding non-Americans captive without according them the same rights as we claim for ourselves stands cross-ways to the essence and marrow of the noble idea that is America. If a Muslim yanked off a street in Iraq is not endowed with these rights then neither are any one of us.

Minor nit (I believe): 75% of the decisions that were appealed were overturned. BTW, I understand that's down from the high 80s a couple of years ago. Either way, it demonstrates why it's called the "9th Circus Court of Appeals".

Um, Federal Court appointments are for life.

Homework assignment: How many judges on the 9th Circus Court of Appeals were appointed by Democrat Presidents?

Soe were just stupid appointements (Souter, anyone?)

Exactly as it should be. Nowhere in the Constitution does it mention SCotUS in the amendment process.

The way I understand it, he solved the "Cuban Missile Crisis" and spearheaded Humankind's Exploration of Space.
