OT: About chairs

One advantage of a tree trunk: Being more or less round, it is easy to pivot on it -- you would bang your legs on the corners of the box. Unless you made an octagon or similar.

For $159, you can turn your tree trunk into a swivel chair (500 lb capacity);

Tree trunk chair? Good idea:

If that's not strong enough, perhaps a stone chair:

If that's too heavy, perhaps an inflatable:

For an insulated and ungrounded chair:

For meetings with clients, where some intimidation might be useful:

For simplicity of manufacture as well as ease of use I would suggest this one:

Now that would be useful for shopping at any big box store.

With my large family, I needed to seat up to 24 at a time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Bought the "Lifetime" brand of folding tables and chairs at Sam's Club, and bought a church-style rolling rack on the web to store them on.

I've had them for about 5 years now, with no problems, but no heavy weights either ;-) ...Jim Thompson

Cheaper:

$13 and it holds 500lb. BYOL (bring your own log). I use these for rotating antenna pedestal mounts for direction finders.

You just can't resist being an asshole, can you? What is it, you don't like my somewhat off-the-wall modern, with Native American artist accents ?:-)

Check Lifetime out. They're white seating material and gray legs, sturdy, but light weight, unfold with one hand. ...Jim Thompson

I've got tree trunk stools and end tables. (used outdoors) The only issue is that worms and other critters like to live and eat underneath (where they rest on the ground). So they need replacing every five to ten years.

Incidentally, one problem with the above lazy susan is that the steel bearings make quite a bit of noise. Sounds somewhat like a Pachinko game. Injecting grease helps, but I wouldn't recommend it for a quiet office environment.

Push-pull? With bungi cords, I guess it's mostly pull. I couldn't find a rowing machine office chair.

Rail-to-rail?

Oscillator, with self adjusting balance control. For those that need a challenge.

Ejection seat.

I have some Ikea furniture, and last year I spend a almost whole day at Ikea Groningen (Netherlands) but found nothing I liked, and bought some stuff elsewhere. My Ikea dinner table is almost 30 years old!

These chairs were 5 Euro, at gamma, and I had a whole pallet of wood and stuff so I threw them on... The cabinet with drawers from gamma, you needed to assemble it yourself, when I put some heavy tools (hammer and plyers, nothing more) in the drawers, the bottom fell out :-( Cardboard and tape, do not lean against it.
