Sony CDP C245 , 5 disc carousel

Drawer jamming or not opening with a rubbing noise in the background. Probably due to the toothed belt slipping on the motor pulley because the spindle of the driven pulley or its "bearing" has worn and allows the 2cnd pulley to tilt over. At the moment I intend packing out the gap, into which the pulley tilts, with a couple of PTFE blocks. Any other ideas ? belt has not stretched. No proper bearing as the plastic pulley shaft just goes through a thickened boss of the plastic chassis. The tilting does not seem to disengage, from the 4th, the 3rd cog on the other end of the 2cnd cog shaft

I assume the rumbly noise is normal for these, due to pulsed drive to the drawer/other mechanicals motor. Slow drive at start and end but stronger drive in mid travel. The motor is not really torquey enough for all this and my PTFE bearers . Relieved some of the back torque by replacing one cam follower spring with a lighter one and moved the anchor point of the other spring to relieve. Liberal lubrication, and if that disappears at a later date, at least the toothed belt will not jump with an even greater ratchety/rumbley noise and then fingers help if required.

I had one of these Sony carousel machines with the same problem. It took me a while to figure it out. The plastic window that covers the front panel display had slipped down just enough that it would rub against the drawer as it opened or closed. See if you can find some scratch marks on the drawer.

the display bezel is fine on this one. It is used commercially so a lot of use since 1994, can't complain about that. The motor is really too small, presumably only just adequate when new. The owner is happy enough half-closing the drawer by hand rather than pressing the eject button. Presumably that large overhang when open sometimes means the inward time slot times out pulling the drawer in against this overhang. Opens always ok and the subsiduary CD lift sub-mechanism works consistently.
