70s Sony TV - Red Flickers

Have an early 70s 13" Sony TV. Now and then all of the red "flickers" in and out of the picture. Is it a possible bad picture tube or ?

Thanks AJ

Yes that's possible, but it could be just a bad solder joint, the most likely place to look is on the small circuit board on the CRT pins. check the pins themselves and also the video drive transistors. With best regards, 3T39. E-mail: snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com

Swap over the drives to the crt. This will give you some weird colours, but it will also tell you if the problem is with the tube. If the picture still flickers all red then the tube is faulty, if it is either geen or blue then it is a drive fault.

Theoretically possible, but very unlikely. You probably have a cracked solder joint on the neck board, pretty quick fix normally.
