You do not indicate whether this is for a commercial project or not. Why not take a look at drccomputer.com. This company makes an fpga that plugs into an AMD socket and communicates with memory via hyperchannel. They have Linux work stations with hardware & software all ready to go. It should be much faster than anything on PCI bus.
