I just completed a basic test on a small amount of the coolant that was used in the induction heater coil CNC machine.
Under DC, it does not seem to have much of any conducting properties how ever, I placed the coolant in a tin can, use the can as one electrode, then inserted a round metal tube down through the center as the second electrode.
It appears this fluid is very reactive!. With the surface area I tested at 50Khz from the generator, R and scope attached, it looks like Xc is around ~ 100. give or take a bit.. it changes as you move the second electrode around in the fluid.
I tested some old fluid he brought over to my home shop and that is also reactive but very little, not even enough to worry about. It also has some DC r in it, could just be spent (contaminated) fluid causing that.
This coolant looks like propylene glycol. I wonder if he should be using ethylene glycol instead?
Any one know if there is a strong electrolyte in these chims?
Or maybe, it suppose to be diluted?
