Re: OT: Global Warming ? India rejects the lie.

Mann's statistical techniques were criticised by academic statisticians; the nine studies that replicated Mann's work -could take these criticisms into account, so the data clearly isn't bogus. Only a scientific ignoramus like Rich Grise could think otherwise - primarily because he doesn't seem to be able to think clearly.

Rich is too dim to appreciate that global temperatures are influenced by more than just the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere - the recent episode of (slight) global cooling is just one more short term fluctuation around the long-term warming trend.

He's also too dim to appreciate that while CO2 nourishes plants, it's just one of the inputs plants need to grow. More CO2 doesn't do them any good if they don't have enough water - and geobotanical evidence shows that when atmospheric CO2 levels were higher in the geological past, the stomata density on the under-side of leaves was correspondingly lower; back then fewer stomata let in enough CO2 without letting out any more H2O vapour than absolutely necessary.

I miss enough of my own typos to do that automatically.

I can't remember back that far - as I've always said, your electronics knowledge is pretty good. Not all that deep, but there doesn't seem to be much that you do know that ain't so.

You too drone on about AWG and socialism, and since you know very little about either subject, and most of what you do know ain't so, I get to post a lot of correction - none of which registers with you, but may register with any lurker who is bored enough to find the time to read our exchanges

John Fields and Jan Panteltje have offered themselves up for some comic criticism recently.

I do have the occasional idea, but not enough of them to give them away for free. But watch this space - the most recent one is coming along nicely.

Whether or not I'd come out on the other side looking good is beside the point - nobody else would be silly enough to read the discussion, so who would I be looking good to?

ur

I can't see any evidence that I've silenced any of my critics, and I have lots of fun riding rough-shod over all of them. Sorry about the hoof-marks, but you will try and play the critic, despite a total lack of talent for the role.

Same effect. Still impressive.

I guess so. We haven't got a hammer that big. The 7002 is really cheap but I much prefer the IRLML2505.

Who makes that? IR doesn't seem to.

My base ISP dropped binary Usenet about a year ago, and dropped Usenet entirely about 2 months ago. Dropping Usenet entirely forced me to test some others. So far i like Astraweb better than ForteAPN but the difference is small. In a year or so i will get of the dime and write my own custom filter SW. T'aint hard, even dealing with simple authentication. I even have open source to work with for both Redmond and Linux.

Personal opinion? I pointed to a panel of scientists on a NSA committee, or rather, you did it yourself with the link. So I merely quoted from your own link. The findings of those scientists contradict your conclusions but I still did not say that you don't know much about science.

To me this is a matter of common courtesy.

That's because you've plonked everybody you don't like, which is almost everybody.

Verizon dropped ALL of the alt.* hierarchy. Grrr!

Thanks, Rich

Thanks John. That's the best new thing I've learned all day. It's sort of intuitive, but I never thought about it. I was able to open the FTP on my web page - password required - and look directly at all the files right in Explorer.

Ken, if you got Windows Explorer not to default to Internet Exploder when clicking on an image file I'd appreciate a hint.

Right-click on the image and you should get a popup context menu with something like "Open with..." in it somewhere. Then just pick your favorite image viewer. :-)

Hope This Helps! Rich

Tried it yesterday, woudld till open IE.

Well, I keep getting the "page cannot be displayed error" again regardless of Internet settings. I'll just hang up on Windows Exploder and keep using Wise FTP. Because that always works.

I didn't open any of the image files. I was only commenting on the visibility of the web folder in Explorer. I didn't try to move files to or from the web, but Windows would probably use the FTP engine of Interet Explorer for the transfer. I imagine that if I clicked on an HTML file, Windows would use the default browser to open it. Maybe you could right-click the file and "Open With" Firefox. It might be useful for quick management of web site files.

Yes, I guess they have a default link to IE in there. Possibly the grounds for the lawsuit in Europe. But you are right, for quick web site uploads and link posting this might still work.

Even if you told it "open with" say, Paint Shop Pro? That doesn't make any sense.

Are you sure you right-clicked, and got the popup menu? On that menu, DO NOT click "Open". Click "Open with..." and then pick your poison.

And was it you who was having a challenge showing the address window in WE, or did you get that resolved?

What was the context when this happened?

Hey, if you've got something that works, then you've got something that works. :-)
