According to my abnormal psych homunculus, people who perceive themselves as harmed by the mere presence of words are deeply neurotic and trapped in a vicious cycle of denied guilt and self-hatred. ;-)

I have always had by doubts about Wiki as it is too easy to get it edited by well meaning idiots and those with an axe to grind.

It was always less so with printed encyclopaedias due to the cost of (re) printing and the shelf life of the books. People tried to get it right AND moderated by named experts who had more to loose if seen to be getting it wrong.

When you're walkin' down the street at 11:00 PM in an American city and a group of young men are walking toward you, you better hope to Hell those young men are white men. If they're white your chances of avoiding the Emergency Room are much better. Even the black extortionist Rev. And please don't dump any of your racial crap on me. It's ***NOT*** skin color that matters, it's culture that matters. The color of a guy's skin doesn't control his behavior. It's the culture in which he grew up that molds his actions. Never forget that.

For God's sake. Many years ago in Scotland I met some black guys who grew up in Scotland. These guys spoke far better English than I, and they were so sophisticated, so enlightened. I was shocked. I'm sittin' there having a drink with three black guys and they all spoke like Sir Lawrence Olivier!! (Do you even know who Sir Lawrence Olivier was?) It hit me like a bullet between the eyes. Skin color means nothing!!! NOTHING. It's culture and upbringing!!!

Oprah Winfrey spent a large sum of money building some sort of school for black kids in Africa recently. When asked why she didn't help American black kids. she said something like, "Blacks kids in America don't want to go to school and learn. The kids here want to learn."

Now Oprah, being black, is allowed to say that. But in our anti-white American culture, no white person could ever say what Oprah said without being punished.

People like to use the phrase "only skin deep". Differences are far deeper than that, because they are cultural. Beyond their first few years, culture runs very deep in a child. Race is irrelevant.

now Rick. i gotta cite an exception that is within my own personal experience.

when i was a Northwestern Student and living in Evanston Illinois, i had an occasion of being at a meeting, in the winter, with some other folks in an inner city church (the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago) and after the meeting was over i was the last to get to my car (all the other folks got in their car and drove off). as i was walking to my car, seemingly outa nowhere was a bunch of black kids walking up and one of them pointed to me and said something like "there's an adult, let's get him." and i thought holy f*ck, i'm gonna get my ass kicked. but these kids just wanted to throw snowballs. they were horsing around.

now i had to examine myself a little afterward to see if my reaction and assumption that i was gonna get my ass kicked was correlated to race and if it was reasonable.

Dunno, the news just had a report about the guy who won the largest single pay-out ($300M). Five years later he's broke (though he claims someone made off with his last $50K). How smart is that?

True. The odds are horrible, the expectation lousy but if you do get hit by lightning it will change you life. Worse are the scratch- tickets and pull-tabs. 50% expectation with a win of maybe $100? Well, at least the pull-tab proceeds go to charity (by design, anyway).

I'm reminded of the milquetoast who, for safety, always carried a bomb when he traveled by air. He figured that if the odds were 1,000,000:1 against a bomb being aboard, it was 1,000,000,000,000:1 against two bombs. As he had no intention of detonating his own, its presence made him 1,000,000 times safer.
