Or maybe even a few years earlier, and saved Enron itself? (it was originally just an ordinary power utility)
I heard Lay interviewed on The Nightly Business Report during the go-go years--you know, right after Al Gore invented the internet bubble? Wall Street was awed by Enron's skyrocketing stock, and the interviewer reverential as Lay pseudo-explained the miracle: "Enron isn't just a plain ol' utility, we're wired to zillions of households. That makes us a *network* company."
He made my skin crawl.
Cheers, James Arthur
P.S. Speaking of hindsight, suppose Clinton had pulled the trigger when he had Bin Laden in his sights... No al Qaeda, no 9/11, no war.
