Model of Loopstick Antenna??

Is the proper model of a loopstick antenna an inductance with a voltage source in series (representing the signal)?

Or would something else be a better representation?

Hello Jim,

Whether an inductor is a reasonable model depends on what you do and what you want. I would use at least an RLC approach (all in parallel and a voltage source in series with the L or current source parallel to the RLC circuit).

The reason for this is that around the resonant frequency your input amplifier may show strange behavior (oscillation?) that you may overlook by just using an inductor.

For modeling the frequency dependent core losses, you need a higher order model. In most cases that is not required.

Add a frequency dependent resistance in series, and a capacitance in parallel to that (at minimum)...
