Not that John Larkin has a lot of theoretical baggage to cut through.

Preconceptions are a different matter.

The Pico stuff is notorious expensive.

We are doing some high voltage pulsers lately, and we need high voltage 50 ohm attenuators. I was playing with making our own.

Yes. Not hundreds, but a dozen maybe. I theorize that thinfilm resistors will stand more peak power for short HV pulses, as compared to thick films, but I need to test that theory.

Geometry will matter.

I wonder how people manage to make giant 250 watt 10 GHz attenuators, to get the heat out but keep the impedances right.

I ordered a Pasternack atten that claims to tolerate 10 KW for 5 usec.

I always get confused by the power specs of low-value attenuators.

1dB and 150W: Is that the power applied or dissipated?
