When you get to a fourth- or fifth-generation diazo, the dot can get a little bit obscure. That's where the "R" for the decimal point came from.

Actually, I still have and occasionally use a blueline machine, since I like to draw original schematics on vellum. But bluelines were seldom used n-th generation, since you can't actually copy a blueline to a blueline. You need a "sepia" for that.

But if you're losing connection dots, you're going to be in big trouble on everything else.

Again, ancient history. All our official schematics are cad, and print on laser printers, if at all. The schematic is just a reference drawing, and the thing that matters is the netlist.

Does anybody else here still do diazo copies?

Sure it is. It's just different. Doing both is the best of both worlds. I wouldn't even mind a little firmware thrown in the mix, if I don't have to deal with anything as horrible as C. ;-)

Having a kid quickly hardens one to that sort of thing. He would probably rather your mother did it anyway. In my mother's last year she wouldn't let any of us anywhere near her in similar conditions. She had either a nurse or one of her daughters-in-law help.

They have to be *really* sloppy not to catch such things in DRC or netlist checks. Yes, I have worked with some of them ("DRC? What's that?" or "Oh, that's too much work.").

We have one that's been killing us. We've fixed it at least a dozen times and it still comes back. The only thing we can figure is that the boards are different depending on who we use for fab.

I had that problem with Xilinx Virtex and Virtex-E parts. Same thing; cap on CCLK fixed it. Never found out why, but it worked. Found the fix by scopeing it long enough to get through a complete config (probe capacitance was enough for it to work).

It's not a rule, so they're not "rulebound"; just idiots.

Ditto. Spartan 3. A fet probe didn't matter, but a regular probe fixed it.

I think the newer Xilinx parts have Schmitt triggers on their CCLK inputs.

Odd that Altera doesn't seem to have had that problem and Xilinx has had it for a decade. The Altera FAE looked at me like I'd grown another head when I asked if there was anything special, like the cap, I needed to know about configuration.
