Me??? ftp://jjlarkin.lmi.net/Ipump.JPG If there's a human in the loop, then, using your system, the possibility exists that a dot could be inadvertently placed where no junction is supposed to exist. Using staggered tees completely eliminates that possibility, and is therefore a better way to do it, no matter how long or how loudly you bray.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.

It looks like this is designed more for "floating" loops, rather than ones referenced to a zero volt common rail like I need. (I neglected to mention this in my OP...).

I don't think there is an industry standard, just opinions. I care about how my schematics look, how things line up and are spaced and such, how signals flow visually, and a 4-way tee sometimes looks better to me. Some people\\\\\\ hens go ballistic over this sort of thing, even if they can't understand the schematic itself.

In a complex schematic it's exactly the opposite. Splitting intersections take space, break up straight lines, and take more space. They're harder to read. If you do one-component-per-letter-sized-page style, where off-page connections make up 80% of the connections it doesn't matter so much.

Not to mention that intersection dots are a different color.

DimBulb, I've never even hinted that you are in any way standard.

I'm the same way. I use 4-way T's often because they don't break up the flow and whitespace. Requiring only 3-point intersections makes a mess of the schematic. Given today's printers and displays, disallowing 4-way intersections is just stupid.

When all they can do is cluck, I guess they have to lay eggs. Interesting that JF, JT, and DimBulb all agree (that clucking is more important than electronics).

A schematic should not be complex to start with. If a schematic is complex nobody will be able to modify the schematic or service (repair) the end product.

Usually it can't be helped. A serious board these days will have a uP, an FPGA (300 to 500 pins each), all the support flash and dram and clock stuff, ADCs, DACs, Ethernet or a bus interface, all that, on a 6 or 8 layer board, with 5 to 10 different power rails. A 25 or 30 page schematic isn't unusual. We have one VME module that has 1100 parts. Another has 13 ARM processors and a heap of analog electronics. That's life these days.

Gone are the days when the schematic of a TV set could be pasted inside the rear cover.
