See diagram called " Equivalent Circuit" .
With your DMM on ohms, testing from B to E in either direction should read
2100 ohms ( +/- 15%).
With your DMM on " diode test", the C- E diode should tests like any
silicon diode with a very high resistance ( Mohms) in the reverse direction.
If all that is OK, the devise is likely OK.
Unless you bought a fake.

hi, thanks, mine is buggered, it came outa a fan speed controller from a
car, in one test it measured something like 35 million ohms, and the otehr
way 7 million ohms.
any idea where i can get a replacement , dick smith and jaycar dont have
anything.
