access to EPCS pins on Altera device without using the NiosII processor

Hello,

If you use a Nios2 processor then you can access the EPCS pins. Has anybody been able to do this without using the Nios2 processor? I found a module called tornado_epcs_controller_atom and I think it should be possible to do it using this module.
