Sony KV-XS29M33

Can anyone please help me out with the above TV set. The set is dead with no pic or audio. On powering up there are 2 flashes from the LED indicating a short somewhere in one of the power crts. I suspect the main power regulating IC601 has gone to heaven but am not 100% sure. Does any one out there have any experience with these sets? Are there likely to be any other components that need to be replaced at the same time (I think the cap C614 (10uf 50) and diode D610 may also be suspect). I am more used to working with audio equipment than TV so any help would be most appreciated. Regards Con244

I have not worked on this particular model. I will make a generic comment:

I have had failures of the flyback assembly including the HV multiplier. In most Sony sets the flyback and HV multiplier are manufactured as a single module.

If the flyback is defective, most likely the horizontal output transistor must be replaced. With that, there may be damage in the main power supply. The main drive IC usually fails when these types of faults occure.

Also, it is important to verify if any of the support components in the power supply and the horizontal output area have also failed. Sometimes a small component fails in these areas, and thus other components fail because of this. If the original cause of the failure is not verified the new replacement components will also fail.

After finding all the faults and the set is working, it is important to verify the high voltage and X-Ray protection specifications. You must refer to the service manual for details.

If you are not experienced and trained in TV servicing you may not be able to properly service these types of problems.
