Sony DVP S300 - distorted pic and sound

Jan 22, 2006 3 Replies

Hi,

This unit is a few years old, but not antique yet :-)

Playing a CD I get sound, but it's distorted and not very loud. Playing DVD I get the picture, but also distorted, as if the whole screen is covered with B&W rectangles, while the video is visible as well.

Any guess, where I should look?

Regards,

Rich

Bad laser pipckup, not worth repair, sorry. Mike Kinnaird

I dunno - we do see lots of laser pickups bad, but if it continues to play through the disc, the main board could be bad. Not much you can really do to troubleshoot; either replace the pickup and hope that fixes it, or if that doesn't fix it, start looking closer at the board - maybe a capacitor leaking for example.

Obviously - the problem is cost. A new player is cheaper than a replacement pickup, and cheaper by far than the board.

Welcome to the exciting world or electronic repair!

Thanks Mark,

Will do some fishing around the board. Just wanted to be in the right pond :-)

Would not bother to replace the laser, but a bad cap may be economical to replace if I find it.

Rich
