Cordless Phone Problem

Apr 23, 2006 4 Replies

Hi

I'm hoping someone can help me with this

We have a set of BT Freelance XD100 Twin phones

They have been working fine for about 3 years

About a week or so ago people we spoke to on the phone started to complain that they couldn't hear us

This problem has shown up on both phones at pretty much the same time

We can hear callers perfectly which seems to rule out a line problem - hooked up a regular phone to the line and that works fine

Have checked the microphone hole and it seems free of any "goo" that could block the sound

Any thoughts? BTW I'm no engineer so I'm afraid taking it apart and metering widgets is beyond me

If there's no simple fix then it's new phone time

TIA for any help

Tim

Did you recently switch to ADSL? Some ADSL filters (eg D-Link) cause problems with some phones, particularly Panasonic.

Hi Franc

No ADSL installed Net is via cable phones over normal UK phone lines so no link there Thanks for the reply

No outgoing audio from both phones would almost certainly indicate a base station problem, which you are unlikely to be able to get to the bottom of with no electronic knowledge or experience. There is, however, one thing you could try. I have the same model of phone, and have once or twice suffered some very odd problems that have defied being resolved by any button pushing etc. I seem to recall that one of these problems was audio related, but I can't remember what exactly now.

Anyway, in each case, the fix has been to just pop out the batteries on the handset for a minute or so, which forces a full powerup reset, when they are refitted. You might try taking the base station off-power for a couple of minutes as well. You may have to " re-mate " the handsets to the base after.

Remember that these phones are digital, and if the software gets screwed anywhere along the line, unpredictable problems can occur. Failing this providing a fix, then I think that it is time for a trip to Comet or Dixons ...

Good advice - I'm kicking myself that I didn't think it through like that! I'll give it a try - before I take a trip to Dixons :-)
