It's a 2 way D-type 9 way connector box.
All the one's I've seen are the same length.

I've never seen shorter ones, but I have seen back to back connectors sealed in a potting compound that are more compact. You could also think about using two housings bolted together facing opposite ways. The connectors are offset, but the overall length can be as little as 1"
