I need to start working on a xilinx virtex II pro board in a few days. I am new to fpgas. Could someone please suggest some manuals and links to get started.

Xilinx web-site is the best resource :
There are two manuals you will have to refer at the minumum :
1) Virtex II pro data sheet
formatting link
2) ISE tool documentation for place and route
Of course this is just to get your feet wet - FPGAs are beasts and designing with them is an art (not to scare you though). Regards,
