I just spent 2 days with Nero 9. I read the reviews and lots of mags said it was better than Roxio 2009.
Well - Nero 9 SUCKS - SUCKS - SUCKS - SUCKS - SUCKS!
A 540MB download that doesn't include any manuals. Those are separate. It took over 2 hours to install, after failing 40 mins into the first install.
My need was to create dual layer DVD for a project backup for a customer.
The first test burn wouldn't recognize the DVD-R DL disks. The machine recognized them, but Nero would not.
I tried a regular DVD+RW with a reduced dataset, 3.3GB. After Nero spent over 30 mins "estimating compilation size" over and over, I killed it and rebooted. The next time it got past the estimating in about 5 mins, then burned the DVD at 4X, took about 40 mins. Worked fine.
Tried the DL again an no go. Found a free DVD utility on the web and downloaded it. 4MB download, 10 second install, seemed to work right away, but the DL disk it produced could not be read in any machine.
Did a custom install of Nero into another machine (different brand of DVD burner) with only the 3 features I needed. This took a mere 35 minutes to install. Repeat the test above. Never got past the "estimating compilation size", but did recognize the DL disk. Halt, catch fire, uninstall.
Now that I'm done ranting, anyone have any actual good results with anything?
