Developing Embedded Systems (uC-Linux) on Breadboards.

You would need that many pins for memory bus.

on 32 bit controller, 32 data bits / multiplexed with addressing bits for the bus, maybe another 20 pins or so for vcc, rs232, reset, and IO etc. surely this could be available on 40-60pin DIP?

Are we talking about uC available on the market or one you want us to make? For latter, it can be done with 2^^32 dollars.

haha, I'll pass on the $2^^32 offer for now, but i'll keep it in mind.

uClinux images are available both as source-code and binary images which can be loaded onto the uC specified on that site i posted in the original message

so what i'm looking for is one of those uC which has been soldered onto a PCB (with a couple protection diodes etc etc) which provided the pin outs that can be plugged directly into a breadboard for prototyping and development. for example what diligent inc did for the cool-runner FPGA

surely something like this would exist, I'm just struggling to find it...

That's 256K Flash and 32K SRAM.

For example, a small port:
