car charger for pda

hi. i have a "home" charger that outputs 1A 5V mini usb for my pda (it camed with the pda)

Now i need to charge it in the car and i have an older charger mini usb

5V too, but i believe it has less output Amp.

can i still use it to charge the pda?? is it safe? wont it get overheated (the charger or the pda)??

thanks

Good news is the the voltage is the same- this is critical. As for the current:- It all depends on the actually current draw of the PDA. If the current capacity of the car charger is close to 1A and the current draw of the PDA is lower than 1A then you should be fine. If this is the case: is unlikely to hurt the PDA by trying it but monitor the car charger and see how hot it gets while charging. If it is getting hot disconnect it immediately as this means the current draw is most likely too high.

Worst case scenario is the car charger will die (maybe instantly) if the current draw of the PDA is much higher than the car charger can provide.

Hi... thanks for your post.. bought a razr v3 car charger and aparently works great with no heating (even while pda is playing mp3). On batteries playing mp3 does het the unit a lot and it looks that using the car charger solves this too!

thanks again for the post.
