Turning an ordinary 12-volt car battery charger in to a regulated charger?

Hi, I was just wondering if any electronics whiz kid out there could tell me if this is possible, or if indeed this is what I require.

I have a 6amp 12-volt battery charger for charging my car battery, no problems here! However I also have a motorcycle that has one of those sealed batterys, now from what I have read I believe that you are not supposed to charge this type of battery with a normal charger, as it will damage the battery somehow. Is this correct?

Would it be possible to build a small circuit that I could put in line if I wanted to use this charger to charge the motorcycle battery without causing any damage to it? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

There are different types of sealed battery. Check with the manufacturer of the battery as it's probably ok.

Most lead acid batteries use a standard constant voltage charge profile but the recommended float voltage can sometimes vary slightly from make to make.

I have looked at the battery & there are charging instructions on it. It states: Standard charging 0.9A for 5 to 10 hours. Fast charging 4.0A for 1 hour

Fast charging is only recommended in Emergency conditions.

Do I need to get a different charger for this battery, or could I add some circuitry to my charger to drop the output of it?
