I always knew chocolate was good for you mainly because of a substance called theobromine- just checked Google and my recollection of this word is accurate from first reading in high school 100 years ago. But the problem is the traditional manufacturers such as Hershey's are producing some gelatinous goop with super high saturated fat and only chocolate flavoring. So if you want the real stuff, you have to be prepared to pay a lot more.

Lundt, Ritter Sport, the Italian Perugina (sp?), Toblerone, and the Dutch stuff, Drosit or something. Most American and British chocolate is crap, except for a couple of boutique brands like Scharfen Berger and Joseph Schmitt, both of which have been purchased by Hersheys. Godiva is mediocre and way overpriced.

The Hershey almond bars are almost edible in an emergency. They actually seem to have the best chocolate.
