Looks like a simple flyback will work. It behaves almost exactly like the Spice model, which is one virtue of simple circuits. No loop stability issues, for sure.

Maybe smoked - there were occasions when the operating smoke escaped from the equipment I was tinkering with.

Is there an easier way to open Larkins ftp links?

Here's what I do in Thunderbird.

Left click near link, drag to highlight link, right click to open dropdown window, left click on copy, hover over icon on task bar then right click to open tab, left click address bar to highlight link, left click to open dropdown window, right click paste, click go to address in window. Most of the time it's worth doing, but sure would be nice if he had a one click link.

Ok, a little experimentation and I got it down to seven clicks. (use copy link location)

The transmitters I've worked with rarely let out any smoke. At 195 KW RF output, things tend to explode if you don't know what you're doing. 65 KW EEV Klystrons aren't cheap.

I know what a ham radio operator is. I've repaired equipment for them for 40 years.

Good old netscape 4.78 is just three clicks. Right click on the link. Click on 'Save Link As'. Click on 'Save'.

I have no clue why, but I just need one click to open those using Thunderbird version 1.0.2 (20050317)

Is the +12 current limited to protect the 4424 if the FPGA stalls?

I like your proto technique. After you cut the copper, how do you lift it off the board? (I use a dremel to grind the copper off, but that's a lot slower & more awkward than using an Xacto.) My attempts with an Xacto leave a _lot_ to be desired. :-(
