That was only a 500 MHz scope with a passive probe, so that step may be faster than it looks.

That's why it needs a current-steering network to square it up.

A couple fast shottkies and an offset would trim off front knee and square the overshoot (not the ring, if it's real).

20V fast-rise power pulse--there's probably a valuable use for it.

In this context "peer" just means somebody as well- or better-informed than the author - I've refereed occasional papers for peer-reviewed journals, a nd slung out more than I've "rubber-stamped".

If you knew anything about the subject, you'd know that nothing gets "rubbe r-stamped", and that the evidence for anthropogenic global warming isn't ac tually BS, but you are what the Dutch call a vaakidiot, who knows everythin g about his own area, and very little about anything else."Vaak" translates as trade or profession - expertise comes close, but doesn't capture the po int that you make your living from your "vaak".

Not in my products! That spike messed up the front-end of opamps clear across the board, parts that, to look at the schematic, weren't even connected to the switcher.

LM3102. Not recommended.

You need to hurry. Statistically I figure to be entering my last decade. At the rate you're going, I'll never see your "peer" review

I've got pressure closer to home. I've spent about $2000 on parts - a signi ficant portion of it on getting two sets of the transformer and inductor wo und, and my wife wants to see them turned into something that does somethin g.

And you wouldn't get to see any peer reviews. The referees write them, and they are seen by just the editor, the author(s) and - sometimes - the other referees. Nobody else.

Much too nice for Sloman to pollute. St. Petersburg, Fl. has some nice historical sites, as well. I hear that tarpon Springs is nice, too. All three are close to each other.

The loser has no clue that discrete circuits don't translate directly into ICs.

No one will see it. Where will he ever find peers?

I wonder what Mike Terrell thought that I had in mind? Not that it matters. Mike's fantasy world has even less connection to reality than Disneyland, and isn't remotely as well engineered.

That's the proof--it could be a jammer, 'fer instance. Or a (very) poor-man's TDR.

I'll have to get some for my SRD collection.

Yep. We did St. Pete in the early '80's in between design reviews with a foundry in West Palm Beach (MCE, now defunct).

I tried something like that recently. I had a 40 ps, 0.8 volt step I wanted to speed up into a 20 ps, lower amplitude step, with a current steering network like that. Turns out that the parasitic capacitances of the diodes killed the idea. Any packaged diode that I can buy has a bad tradeoff between series resistance and shunt capacitance. I could do better buying chips and wire bonding, too much work.

I could do what I want with a fast AND gate, for about $600.

Then you're not serious?

recovery

I'm actually waiting for a potential customer to get serious. It's interesting but not something to spend a lot of effort on yet. I play with a lot of ideas without being really serious; some get serious later, some don't.

The TDR circuit in a Tek SD24 is very like the thing James drew, SRD and current steering diodes. There's a Tek patent and the inventor is Agoston Agoston. You could look it up if you were interested, but of course you aren't.

A) I doubt he'd be competent to work in this speed domain and

B) I do know semiconductor people who will work with me on this who, unlike Jim, understand picosecond stuff and aren't assholes.
