Have need for an inexpensive high voltage connector, mounts vertically on PCB, rated to 3KV or better, simple connection similar to the small power connectors used on wall warts. Male or female; will use about 140 of them on PCB, one (opposite sex) on HV side which will be powered only after connection. Suggestions please.

I used to use BNCs at 12KV when I was a kid, playing with flashtubes and such. It would be interesting to test them to breakdown.
Or use a nylon shell 3-pin AMP or Molex thing, the kind where you insert the pins, and leave the middle one unpopulated.
Somebody does make plastic HV connectors, can't recall the name.

There is an "N" type connector with an extended insulation that has a high voltage rating. Off hand, I don't know what the current rating would be.

Those are hideous. SHV is much more reasonable for only 3 KV. Thay are reasonably available.

Fully agree. Just setting the record straight about what to call them.
I've used C as HV connectors, when I wanted a bit of current capability (VHF transmitter using EIMAC tubes).

Those sorts of things are very cheap and would be OK at a few KV if you skip some pins to keep the clearances up. You might prowl Digikey for something suitable.

N and BNC HV connectors can take tens of KV but are VERY expensive..

Yup! In my use, i could get away with using those DC power connectors (like what is used in wall warts).. Looking for a lower cost connector.
PL-259/SO-239 was my first thought, but A HUNDRED AND FORTY OF THEM on ONE BOARD?????? (same reaction for N) =:-O
Maybe you could get something like a teflon TNC or something.

What kind of connectors do they use in laser printers? Don't those make about 5 kV on the power supply board and have to transport it to the, umm, senior moment alert, you know, the surface that gets exposed to light and then the toner sticks to it? Anyway, whatever connector they use has to be pretty cheap given the pricing on laser printers.

Yeah; i thought of the KK series..except no nice way to make female end look decent and safe. Max use: 3KV, 0.5mA.

Teflon anything is expensive, and TNC is not conducive to production use.
