OT: Hlep - WordPress

Wordpress looks like it needs to be installed on a webserver. Why don't you use frontpage or some other html editor? Coffeecup editor comes to mind. This looks promising..

Just downloaded Wordpress, and not only does it not work, but it refuses to do anything - prolly because i am so stupid. After some non-obvious directory fiddling and subdirectory duplication of what was in root directory, i found no EXE, so that was a big disappointment. Got file extension PHP to link with browser, which helped greatly. Noodles around to no avail. What i want to do is create what looks like a website on my hard drive in an empty HD folder - which i will eventually FTP to a new URL on the web. So, "getting Started" looks useless as:

1) NO login (why? what for?) 2) No Database (why? what for?) 3) What is this about PHP "support"? 4) Blogs (why? what for?); i do not mess around with blogs. 5) SQL (why? what for?); i do not cotton to SQL - let the pigs squeal all they want, why should i feed them?

Wordpress does indeed need a web server. Or you could try using

to host your wordpress pages

All you need to do is to create the appropriate .html files in a directory, then point your browser to that directory. Something like:

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings//My%20Documents//index.html

In Firefox, use "File/Open file" to browse to the appropriate directory, then bookmark the resulting URL. No need for anything other than a text editor (and a little html knowledge).

Wordpress is a Content Management System; it's a server-side web application, and needs to be installed on a web server.

Unlike static web pages, which can be accessed directly from disk by a browser, "dynamic" content requires a web server.

What are you trying to do, and what your feelings re: pirated software? (by that, I mean, would you have any problem using a $700 key- protected software application where the company that produces it is so stupid as to put the key in the public domain?)

Because you obviously picked a tool unsuited to your task. That is its MA>since it is such a PITA

since you picked entirely the wrong tool FTFY

Nvu has been mentioned; that is ancient and deprecated. Its successor, KompoZer is also long in the tooth.

The current darlings in this class have "blue" in their names.

Why aren't you finding appropriate forums/newsgroups/communities for your Web-related questions?
