OT: Global WHAT? Got 5 cm snow now behind the house, -9 C predicted for the weekend, Polar bears welcome!

I am not trying to sell global warming, but the theory of global warming I saw was such that it would have been better if they had termed it global weather chaos.

In the oceans there are currents that loop a bit like the jet streams in air currents. They function as thermal conveyors and transfer heat from the equatorial areas toward the polar areas. This is actuality.

The scenario is that if these thermal conveyors are stopped the polar regions would get much colder and the equatorial regions would become much hotter.

It never really has actually been about WARMING, per se, but more about a failure of natural systems that mitigate the extremes.

In other words, places like Minnesota or Canada would get COLDER as a result of ""Global Warming"" and Arizona and Mexico would get hotter.

I'm guessing that in this scenario places in a middle band like Kansas would experience much wilder SWINGS and much more energetic weather as a result of even colder air masses colliding with even warmer ones.

None of this would explain Al Gore's spastic waving and pointing at melting glaciers.

What scenario is Al Gore trying to sell?

There's a lot of that, from Cleveland up the St. Lawrence, on the US side. It's a *really* poor area. Also notice the >6% property tax.

I suppose, but the market can't be very big; no money.

Or one that will get him elected as president, which is one of his life's goals. A man with such limited capabilities... Oh, wait, Obama was elected, maybe he does have a chance... Like a snowball's chance in hell perhaps?

Hasn't been 80 years. I can recall Dallas-Forth Worth being absolutely snow-bound in the mid-60's... abandoned cars all along the main drag between Dallas and Fort Worth. ...Jim Thompson

It would take a pair of lucky shots to the eyes, then run like hell before it tracked you by smell alone. They are nasty creatures who rarely lose their prey. Al Gore should meet a live one, up close and personal.

In Spitzbergen, you are by law always required to carry a gun, when mowing outside the only town on the island due to the polar bears.

It seems that a pistol fulfills the legal requirement, but of course in practice a low caliber pistol is more or less useless against a bear.

OTOH, if the bear is currently breaking into your tent or has already broken into your house, a hand gun is more practical than operating a rifle with a long barrel in a close quarters between you and the bear:-).

I have heard of shooting the beast in the brainstem through its open mouth during the half-second or whatever before it bites you.
