The scene must have called for a closeup of Baldwin firing the weapon right into the camera, or close to it. The blast could have blown something loose from the camera assembly and into the victims. That's not likely to be something they would test out in advance.

What's really telling is Hollywood's the-show-must-go-on attitude despite personal tragedy. There are many movies wherein someone was killed, usually a stuntman, and that doesn't stop them from finishing the production and releasing the film.

Hollywood is weird. The whole American film industry is weird. Any amount of violence is acceptable, but showing a nipple is taboo. Weird.

When Brandon Lee was killed in a similar type of accident a bullet from a dummy round used in one scene had gotten stuck in the barrel, so when the gun was used with blank rounds in another scene it was like a live round

even if antigun, if you have to be around guns and work with guns it is a good idea to learn some basic firearms safety...

The good guy usually wins. Plus, he gets the pretty girl if there's one around.

The news says a "single round" was fired - while a blank can severely injure you at close range, it is not going to travel thru your body and seriously injure another.

This set was beleaguered with safety problems. This movie production was a safety nightmare: how do you allow ANY live rounds on the set at all? And if you do need live rounds for certain shoots, why were they not secured in a separate, locked area that only the armorer had access to?

Alec "The Jerk" Baldwin is a big union supporter - for OTHER COMPANIES! He fired his union crew and replaced them with nonunion workers.
