I guess it conflicts with the tradition "I'd rather be judged by twelve than carried by six".

I seem to be missing something here. Could you explain the connection between a person's ability to bear children and their ability to steer a ship?

It appears it costs $512 to ship a steer from Lockney, TX to Kingsville, Tx.

Ummmm- "The cause has been officially attributed to a sharp turn, which was made between 8:48 and 8:49 am, KST. At the time of the accident, the conditions were calm and the area did not contain rocks or reefs."
"Rescued passengers reported hearing a loud noise and the ferry coming to a shuddering halt - indicating it may have run aground although the water is reportedly 37 metres (121 ft) deep at the place where the ship capsized."

If that were true, then she could have made the hard turn to starboard to avoid hitting an object in the water, such as a floating container. Such maneuvers are usually done for a reason.

Sounds like the captain is male.
From the Bloomberg link "The ferry Sewol's third mate, surnamed Park, was arrested April 19 along w ith the captain and a helmsman. She hasn't given a clear answer...."
Sounds to me like the 3rd mate is female.

Yeah, she was running her mouth then suddenly realized she was straying off course and over corrected, completely unconcerned about the 1200 tons of freight and 180 vehicles onboard.

So could you please explain why it was significant that the person at the helm was a woman?

Na, ja, maybe I wouldhave jumpered too ;-) But as far as that boat goes, I remember being on a ferry and people (kids) running from left to right, wiggling the ship, people saying 'dont do that'.
Now here is a ship that (in an old picture I found) is already insanely high above water level, has been extended by some company, and kids in cabins on higher decks?
450 kids, 50 kg each, makes 22,500 kg....| (22,500 kg) | x kg extention | === ~~~~~~ water level | 0 And I should be surprized if tilted? Sombody did not do the math, And then somebody without a clue and zero experience steering this tower?
If I had been the captain I would not have dared come aboard ;-)
BTW those were skydivers in that plane, they could jump, and I do not believe save somebody else before your own life, nobody is more important to me than me! Its all bull. There are, as you must have noticed, a lot of dead heros. Those are used to get others to do the dirty work for evil poly-tic-sians, like fighting their wars. For example 0bama, and Biden, both payed by George Soros, who once held a lecture on 'The destabilisation of Europe'.

Actually the captain is not required to go down with the ship, only make sure that everyone else have left the ship.
The radio operator is required to stay on the ship until the SOS/Mayday has been acknowledged or until there are no functional transmitting equipment (no power etc.).
The plane went to 4 km, apparently some part of the plane (wing ?) disintegrated. I have seen a video in which the plane spiraled vertically down trailing smoke? It is still a wonder that even one survived due to the huge G-forces. It really looked very bad like a shot down WWII plane spiraling down without any survivors. While at least some of a WWII bomber crew might have been able to bail out (since there was quite a lot POWs), in quite a few planes shot down, the whole crew perished. Later on, the ejection seat at least increased the possibility of survival.
Returning to this parachuting incidence, according to some local sources, the pilot had a separate door separate from the big door used normally for parachuting, which may explain why the pilot got out. Since the plane was clearly out of control, what could the pilot have done to help the other parachute out ?

Sexist remarks like that are a disgrace to this newsgroup. Whatever personal prejudices you and the O/Ps may have, they cannot be allowed to pass unchallenged when they are aired in public.
Would you or the O/P have made similar remarks in public about negros, Dutchmen or Jews and expected them to pass unchallenged?

I do not hold any of those political views, but I do try to behave as an adult human being.
The person in charge of the ship when things began to go wrong may have done exactly the right things and watched in horror as events got beyond control, or she may have made a series of mistakes and precipitated the disaster. Either way she is probably holding herself responsible for the deaths of over a hundred children.
What are we to make of someone hiding under the anonymity of a pseudonym, who, reading about this dreadful situation, then launches an unjustified attack on her because of her sex or gender? I hope you would have the decency to condemn that sort of behaviour; I certainly would.
