I looked up the other day and suddenly realized that I was in my middle 50's. Or as a friend describes it " Being born in the first half of the last century".

I could have continued ignoring age for quit a while were I not standing the edge of a demographic wave. Both parents and most of their siblings have all died, moving my generation to the top of the family tree. Add in the loss of a younger brother, and the realization that life is a limited time event does start to sink in.

Working at something I love has been great, but it may be its own opiate. I now realize that there are way too many things that I would like to accomplish. I simply am not going to get to them all. So, time to prioritize. Discard the physical items that will never be used and abandon the more foolish dreams of what will never be attained. Time instead to focus on the what is useful and what is within reach. While simple to state, it does take a fair amount of time to assimilate and accept.

Of course, everyone already understood this 10 years ago. I was just too busy working to notice.

I think I am going to be able to retire soon. I just received an email from someone in Nigeria promising me a very large sum of money if I help them with a business transaction. :)

Optimisms good. I had a choice suppor 4 kids education or retire. Started a new electronics business 5 years ago to pay off the mortgage incurred due to education; business growth is good and fits a 3rd order curve.:) Best friend chose retirement on pension from the gov. Died with a smile on his face and too much alchohol. Keep buisy. You know they just arrested a Nigerian who lives a few streets over from me- based on a tip from someone in California. He was running a sweepstakes scam getting half-senile people to send him cash to claim their prize. The police say he was getting thousands of $ cash in the mail each week.

Mark-ups? As in correction mark-ups? Or as in "good idea, I should try that" mark-ups?

F..ing hell, we were born on the same day, but I have 3BDs less.

I'm about 40years away from retirement. I have opted not to pay extra amounts to the retirement account, but have put the money into real-estate instead (bought my first appartment when I was 25)
