In the '50, when I lived in NJ, a buddy and I used to go to "Radio Row" at Canal Street in NYC. One day we picked up a 400Mc generator that he needed for his ham rig. He was going to hook it up to an engine from a lawn mower so he could power up his surplus Xmitter. The thing was heavy, so we found a long piece of wood, tied it to the generator and carried it safari style to the ferry which took us to NJ where we took the train. We barely got any looks from anybody. I wonder what would happen if you tried that today.
At any rate, I have a souvenier from my treks and I have posted it as a binary to alt.binaries.schematics.electronic Take a look. Anybody have any stories about their treks to Canal St.
BTW, the whole area was torn down and the late World Trade Center waw built at that location. That, in essence, killed the hobby/surplus trade in NYC.
