We use lots of Micrel LDOs. I have never had any problems with them.

But that's not a 317, it's a ground-referenced regulator.

It does look like they got the loop dynamics right.

I'm in the suburbs of New York City, which last time I checked was still in the USA. The nearest Trader Joe's is in Connecticut--my wife sometimes goes there, now that the kids are big and she has more time on her hands. Unfortunately they don't have Two Buck Chuck on the East Coast.

Cheers,

"Two Buck Chuck"... you're lucky they don't have it... truly BAD stuff... guaranteed to give you a headache.

Hey, there's transatlantic cables and stuff, right? How about we build a huge heat pipe to carry some of that southern winter cold to use in the air conditioners in the northern hemisphere, and pipe our heat down there to warm up the southern hemisphere.

When it's winter up here and summer down there, they'd just work the other way around. ;-)

Depending what you mean by a "decent burrito", you might try hanging out in an industrial area around lunchtime some time, and try the roach coach. I avoid them, because I don't like Mexican food - it's all avocados and kale and mayonnaise and searing, burning hot peppers and pig's feet and headcheese and tongue and other animal parts that normal people throw away.

Thanks, Rich

Well, that's what you get for buying cheap wine. The SeaRidge merlot is excellent, but you'll have to fork over $2.50 for it.

Recently I've been buying Yellowtail (Australia) Chardonnay... about $5.20... ranks right up there with much more expensive stuff.

Nothing like that at most local 'catering trucks'. Toasted bacon-and-egg sandwiches (your daily sodium & cholesterol needs in one shot) and hot (breaded) veal on a kaiser (daily sodium and calories in one shot) are about the most edible things I've found there. Coffee that smells and tastes like backwash from a burned out lubricating system. Warm sticky buns, and filled donuts with an ingredient list as long as your arm. Bleah. Asians are now running a lot of the chip/poutine wagons. NTTAWWT. The Toronto area has the best hot dog/sausage vendors in the world. Grilled with dozens of available condiments for next to nothing.

If you don't mind mystery coldcuts and such like, try the Viet subs (banh) that you should have nearby. Should be about $1.-$1.50 for a sub. Spicy sauce, coriander, cold cuts, crunchy marinated veggies, on a super-fresh baguette just like the French taught them to make.

An SED lurker has supplied a promising tip for a burrito joint downtown though, so maybe things will turn out okay.

Hello John,

Nice Swiss chocolate, right before the checkout counters. Also, look for those huge Belgian beer bottle (about liter-sized). But seriously, watch your eyes. The cork initially won't want to come out and when wiggling don't stand over it. When it does come out it'll be with the gusto of a Saturn-5 and some trailing smoke from the bottle's neck. Pretty cool. Trappiste and Saison Regal are pretty good, so is their house brand if they have it.

Hello John,

TI. I needed 5V and it was a cramped space so I took the 5V version which is called TPS71550. Don't know the P/N of the adjustable, IIRC the last two digits are different. TI has managed to thoroughly botch their web site now... #%&@*!!

Unfortunately it's all LDO now but this one is happy with 0.47u ceramic. Ran it through the paces and it behaved itself. A nice thing is the Iq of around 3uA which I really needed on this battery powered design.

Great hand unagi rolls (eel cones, I call 'em) at one place I like. But I'm a bit careful of unagi on rice these days, some places seem to have some awfully mushy unage. A Japanese guy told me it was the difference between sea eel and fresh water eel..

Warm sake and cold wome^H^H^H Sapporo. Yum.

Are SF "mission style" burritos supposed to be good?

Lineup out the door, I'm told, at 3pm on a Friday, and the bit of steak burrito that I sampled was pretty decent.

Burritos? In NEW YORK?

We like this one... it's just down the hill from us. One of their carnitas or spicy-chicken super-B's will feed me for two, maybe three meals.
