I still don't know what's so exiting about them. Just doing some plumbing work, one of those honey-do projects. I will be glad when it's over, the wrenches are back in the tool cabinet and I am in front of a nice cold ale. There is a growler full of dry-hop ale in the fridge that we brought back from our local brewery.

Same here. Not in the winter months though where it's used to start the wood stove.

And anything less than job-killing, ruinous, double taxation is called "corporate welfare."

Our next governor wannabee calls it "corporate loopholes". Sez he is going to close those and miraculously balance the budget and fund all kinds of nice-sounding programs. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. If it does then maybe it's time to really think about that relo to Montana.

But that's also becoming a blue state from what I have seen over the last years. If I move it has to be to somewhere I can be sure the conservative majority is large enough that it won't change, at least not over the next 10-20 years or so. That is why in Germany most real (meaning non-subsidized) business predominantly takes place in Bavaria.

I wouldn't mind at all. But my wife does, those states are too cold in winter. The ideal would be a tropical paradise where there are no winters and no leftists but an airport and a Fedex depot.

Hi John, Over time subsidies--which is what "corporate welfare" originally meant--has been morphed into that muddy notion of "not paying their share," which is always unsettling to those who count on their share of your enterprise, and won't settle for less.

Odd, the new term's implication though, that society supports companies, rather than the reverse.

And of course profit--earning more than you spend--is evil. Hence, corporations are evil. Q.E.D. Four legs good, two legs bad.

Fortunately, relieving corporations of their profits purges them of the evil. Partially, anyhow.

One of my favorites was the radical feminist groups that successfully lobbied for tougher and tougher laws regarding 'violence toward women' (on the surface, reasonable), then they attempted to redefine funding cuts to groups such as themselves as 'violence toward women'. ;-)

When our previous "tax'em - spend it" governor was still at the helm neighbors moved out of state. The truck driver said they had a serious logistics problem. Lots of full trucks going out, not much load to carry back in.

When I was biking to work (this was when the weather was more reasonable!), I noticed one of the neighbors had a large big-rig truck parked in front of his house. Apparently he's a trucker. Being a biodiesel fanatic, I asked him if he used biodiesel as a fuel. He said, no - he actually buys fuel from out-of-state (Arizona, Nevada) because the environmentally friendly fuel in California costs too much. He has two fuel tanks to carry extra fuel - looking at them, I estimate them to be about 40 gallons each.

I lived in the Netherlands for a few years and there was a daily trek of German Diesel cars to Dutch gas stations, and a daily trek of regular gas Dutch cars to German gas stations. same deal here, boats and bikes. Personally I wouldnt bother with bikes, its normally only the cyclist that cops it (PI), although I did read yesterday of a cyclist killing a woman (AIUI she fell and banged her head).
