There's no more positive base current than the first pullup resistor provides, and 4v p-p won't zener the b-e junction on the negative swing.
It does pretty well, +-0.1 volt easily, with a smallish tc.

EE Times is OK, for the industry news and quotes. I miss the old Electronics News weekly tabloid, which was published by the same folks who did Women's Wear Daily, and had a similar gossip/dish level. It was great fun.
EDN is OK. The RF mags, Microwave Journal and RF Design and such, are pretty good.

A string of these will propagate a rather nice ripple of positive pulses. It used to be used in old discrete model-airplane RC transmitters to generate the PPM rf pulse train, with every other base pullup resistor being a joystick pot.

I measure +2.2mV typical with my cost-effective circuit (Ic/Ib ~= 1, BOM < 0.01 USD).

Really? I dunno, once I am happy with a CAD suite I'll stick with it for a long, long time. EDA stories have about the level of appeal that car ads have on TV. Even our Rottweiler falls asleep.

Ask a politician. They can offer a perfectly logical explanation. After all, they usually succeed in convincing their constituency that 2+2=5 when it comes to stuff like pork barrel budgeting.
It seems quite well accepeted in political speak that a spending "cut" actually means "smaller increase than originally planned." :-(
