What does the shock absorber accomplish? Maybe a (shock absorber) damped spring? It still sounds rather lossy to me.

Keith

It's less of a problem if you are hitting it with nukes.

Uh ?

What programs to fix planet earth do you refer to ?

There have been a few attempts to mildy mitigate the damage being caused but none that really address the fundamental issues head-on

And calling ppl with liberal viewpoints 'weenies' is plain silly and shows a blinkered mindset. It just encourages the liberals to call those on the right wing rednecks. You degrade your argument by resorting to name calling.

I wouldn't mind betting that at some point the Chinese might go this route.

Plenty of water around Jupiter and easy transport.

Yeah, I can see you as the New World starts to open up, arguing that there's nothing over there and we should just admit that we're stuck with Europe.

:When that gets into some ppls' brain then maybe we'll start treating this planet better :instead of simply looking for another one to trash.

The funny thing is that one would expect you to be massively in favour of space exploration, given the preceding. After all, the best way to reduce pollution here on Earth is to move the polluting industries out.

Well, you said "easy". I certainly don't consider getting there "easy", much less think that getting a usefull size rock back as "easy". What could be on an asteroid that would be worth that much "easy"? What is

*likely* to be?
Keith

True, but still at 10x better than anything that exists today.

I'm not in the asteroid belt yet.

Oh, without free oxygen. Good idea! What can I do to help?

Carbon compounts, metals. I'm not talking about getting anything back to earth, but living in the asteroid belt.

Hence the easy transport of water from Jupiter space.

Only if going in close. Jupiter's moons would be easy enough.

And we already have a spot in the desert that's been nuked, so everything for hundreds of miles around is already dead, so there's no problem with the launch pad, right? ;-P

Thanks! Rich

You are aware that the human body isn't intended to live in zero gravity aren't you ( muscle wastage etc ).

I rather expect that living in the asteroid belt would be accompanied by some rather serious psychological problems too.

You know, this drivel makes you look like a real classic netloon.

I expect he reckons the atomic rockets will provide free power !

Graham

Hey !

I thought you reckoned this space exploration stuff was a good idea ?

Graham

I do, and I think it's ridiculous ludditism to have such paranoia of nuclear-powered rockets.

For launch to orbit, you'd use the kind that just has a hot reactor, so your reaction mass is just steam or something, and put the radiation in space, which is already full of it. :-)

Cheers! Rich
